Imagination Machine to Capture LUSD Migrant Education Students' Writing Through Live Performance

Educational performance program, The Imagination Machine, will celebrate the writing efforts of the 65 Migrant Education students who participated in Lynwood Unified's 21st Century Writer's program by performing their short stories live.

Unbeknownst to the students in the 13-week program, which began in February, the group will perform a select number of their stories during an assembly at the program’s host site, Roosevelt Elementary School. The last day of class is Saturday, June 7.

The complete production of skits will be performed by professional actors and include music, props and costumes.

WHEN:   Saturday, May 31
              9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

WHERE: Roosevelt Elementary School
              10835 Mallison Ave.
              Lynwood, CA 90262

The 21st Century Writing class is part of the federally-funded Migrant Education program, which serves students whose family’s migratory patterns – due to work in the agricultural, dairy, lumber or fishing industries – require them to change schools frequently. To help students overcome educational disparities and cultural and language barriers in school, the program – which serves about 160 Lynwood students ages 3-21 – aims to provide them the opportunities to thrive and grow academically and ensure a successful transition. The writing class also prepares students to meet the new English language arts and literacy requirements under the Common Core State Standards.
