Lynwood Unified Seeks Community Input on New Spending Plan

The Lynwood Unified School District is inviting parents, students, staff and community members to participate in an online survey that will help shape District spending priorities and services needed to support student growth and academic achievement.

Under the state’s new funding rules, school districts are required to adopt a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP), which will guide the expenditure of state funds based on the particular needs of their students.

LUSD has developed the LCAP Stakeholder Input Survey to help establish priorities for the development of the three-year plan, which must be adopted by July 1 and updated each year.

The survey, available in English and Spanish at www.lynwood.k12.ca.us, must be completed by Friday, April 25.

“This District-wide survey will allow every voice in the community to be heard and assist us in our efforts to prepare our students for their academic futures,” said LUSD Board of Education President Briseida Gonzalez. “We encourage all stakeholders to take this survey and have a direct hand in helping their children achieve their goals.”

In 2013, California adopted the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), which gives local school districts like Lynwood Unified more control over how to use state funds for the benefit of their students.

The LCFF requires that districts use the extra funds allocated through special grants to increase and improve services to English-learners, students from low-income families and students in foster care. The LCAP, built through community input, clarifies how programs and services will be measurably improved proportionate to the increase in funding.

The District survey, which should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete, includes questions that center on the following state priorities:

·         Implementation of the Common Core

·         Course Access

·         Student Achievement

·         Other Student Outcomes

·         Parental Involvement

·         Student Engagement

·         School Climate

“Our District is committed to adequately preparing our students for college and careers, but we need to work together to put into action our District’s priorities and mission, including providing the best education possible to our students,” said LUSD Superintendent Paul Gothold.
