Annual Report Grades Cities' Efforts Against Tobacco

The American Lung Association released its annual State of Tobacco Control report for California on Wednesday. 

Eighteen municipalities in the state earned an A grade, with another 33 cities/counties earning a B, according to the report. Despite cities raising their grades in certain areas, nearly two-thirds of cities and counties still receive a failing grade in the report.

Among the cities to top the grades was Baldwin Park, which passed new smoke free housing ordinances in 2013. 

The city of Long Beach received a C grade, putting it in the middle of the pack among the state’s top 10 cities. The city receives an A for its efforts in controlling the sale of tobacco products.

Other Los Angeles County cities grades are: Artesia, D; Cerritos, C; Claremont, F; La Verne, F; Lynwood, D; and South Gate, F;

The city of Loma Linda remained the top ranked city in San Bernardino County, earning a B grade. The only mark against the city remains its efforts in controlling the sale of tobacco products. Redlands received an F grade.
