Lynwood Council Votes to reinstate July 4th Celebration

The local chamber of commerce is expected to take a leadership role in the financing and organizing of the event.

On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, the Lynwood City Council voted unanimously in favor reinstating the annual 4th of July celebration and fireworks show, in partnership with the new Greater Lynwood Chamber of Commerce (GLCC), with some conditions. The event was canceled last year and prior due to budget cuts.

Among the conditions set by the City Council, is that the GLCC work together with Lynwood’s Recreation and Community Services Department to raise funds and sponsorships to cover the costs of the event.

“Chambers of Commerce from other cities carry events like this through sponsorships and donations,” said Edwin Hernandez, Lynwood City Treasurer and head of the GLCC. “That’s how we were able to host our Christmas Parade, through sponsorships. I believe we can make it happen again.”
