LUSD Superintendent: "Continuing a Culture of Success"

The following is an official message from Paul Gothold, the Lynwood Unified School District's (LUSD) new Superintendent.

Dear Lynwood Unified Parents, Students, Staff and Community,

I would like to take a moment to express my excitement at the great opportunity to serve as Lynwood Unified School District’s new Superintendent. There have been some very positive accomplishments we’ve reached together over the past several years and I look forward to continuing these successes.

Through my role as Lynwood Unified’s Chief Academic Officer and Deputy Superintendent, I have had the opportunity to get to know this community and to work with a talented and dedicated team of individuals to improve educational opportunities for all students of Lynwood.  I have seen first-hand this community’s commitment and passion to prepare students to become competitive, whether it is their plan to pursue higher education or enter their chosen career field.

It is my mission as Superintendent to continue to grow the culture of high standards that we have created in Lynwood Unified and to provide a rigorous and engaging learning environment that allows students of all abilities and backgrounds to grow and thrive.

It is clear that our Achieving Greatness Initiative, unanimously passed by our Board of Education in 2011, is producing results. It is evident in our rising graduation rates and higher Academic Performance Index (API) scores districtwide. I plan to continue implementing this plan, which calls for effective professional development for teachers and coordinated interventions and resources for students, with high expectations that all students will complete the requirements for college admission.

Financially, Lynwood Unified has successfully navigated the economic challenges over the last few years to reach financial stability. It is my priority to continue strengthening our fiscal health so that our District can overcome the obstacles presented by the California state budget.

I intend to reach these goals through close collaboration between the many individuals who are integral to reaching our mission – our Board of Education, teachers, support staff, administration and parents. I believe that healthy relationships and open communication between all parties are central to our success.

Over the next few months, I hope to expand the lines of communication and facilitate a smooth transition through monthly superintendent messages, distributing important community information about District news, events and programs and through quarterly newsletters.

I am committed to transparency and open two-way communication between all District stakeholders. I am thrilled to be working with all of you in my new capacity as Superintendent

Sincerely,
Paul Gothold
