Man Shot in South Gate, Suspect is Under Arrest

The victim is in stable condition.

The South Gate Police Department (SGPD) has arrested a 19-year-old Oklahoma woman in connection to the shooting of 60-year-old South Gate man. The shooting allegedly took place at around 9:40 p.m. on Wednesday inside a parked car on the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Michigan Avenue.

“The male and female got into a dispute, “ said Sergeant Ignacio Patiño of the SGPD. “The male was shot once and was transported to St. Francis [Medical Center]. ”

The suspect surrendered immediately to the responding officers. She was also found in possession of a 32-caliber semi automatic handgun that police believe to have been used in the attack.

The victim is currently in stable condition, according to police.

The SGPD is still investigating the causes of this crime, and are currently gathering the different versions of the incident. 

The relationship between the suspect and victim is unknown. However, both told the SGPD that they met for the first time that very same night.

“The motive is unknown,” said Sgt. Patiño, who added that an investigation is underway.

The name of both the victim and suspect are currently being withheld by the SGPD.
