“Walmart’s name has come up,” said Steve Lefever, Director of Community Development for the city of South Gate. “They did inquire, but we have no verification that they will have a lease or will be a tenant.”

Other brands that have also called asking for information about the project include, JCPenney, Target and Lowes, said Lefever.

City official's insist that as of now there have been plenty of calls, but nothing definite from any of the large retailers.

“There are several major players that are interested,” said George Troxcil, South Gate's City Manager. “But there has been no commitment on any of them.”
