I-710 and I-5 Weekend Freeway Closures

The following information is a California Department of Transportation official announcement.

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will implement the following closures for the week beginning Friday, May 24 in relation to a $120 million pavement replacement project on the Long Beach Freeway (I-710) from the Los Angeles River Bridge to the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10):

Northbound and Southbound Santa Freeway (I-5)

· Up to two lanes between Triggs Street and Olympic Boulevard – 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (full freeway closures may occur between midnight and 4 a.m.);
· Southbound I-5 to southbound I-710 connector – 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.;
· Northbound I-5 to northbound I-710 connector – 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Northbound I-710

· Up to three lanes between I-10 and I-5 northbound – 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.;
· Up to two lanes between Slauson Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard – 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.;
· Third Street on- and off-ramps – 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.;
· Cesar Chavez off-ramp – 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.;
· Atlantic Boulevard off-ramp – 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.;
· Eastbound and westbound SR-60 connector to northbound I-710 – 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Southbound I-710

· Up to three lanes between I-10 and I-5 – 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.;
· Up to two lanes between Slauson Avenue and Atlantic Boulevard – 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.;
· Third Street on- and off-ramps – 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
· Olympic Boulevard/Whittier Boulevard off-ramp – 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.;
· Atlantic Boulevard on-ramp – 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.;
· Eastbound and westbound SR-60 connector to southbound I-710 – 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.;
· Southbound I-710 to southbound I-5 connector – 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The project is installing precast concrete panels as well as concrete slabs in various traffic lanes and locations upgrade the median barrier and construct maintenance pullouts along the route to enhance safety for maintenance crews.

 Shimmick Construction is the contractor on the project, which will complete in late 2015. Work also will include widening shoulders and installing fiber optic lines for various traffic management technologies.
