South Gate Council Approves Grant Funds For Overtime Police Expenses

The South Gate City Council has unanimously approved to use funds from Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant. The latters funds are to cover costs associated with the South Gate Police Department’s (SGPD) overtime expenses for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.

“We use this for special operations through out the year,” said South Gate Chief of Police, Randy Davis to the council during Tuesday's July 9th meeting. “So that we do not have to tap into general fund money.”

Swat calls, special enforcement details, and operations towards minimizing crimes that require more police manpower, were listed as the type of situations were such funds came into play.

The grant provides $44,255 to the SGPD.
