South Gate Resident Has First 2012 Baby

A South Gate Woman welcomed the New Year Along with a newborn son.

At approximately 3 minutes after midnight, Jayden Alexander Ramirez, an 8 pound and 1 ounce baby boy, was delivered at California Hospital Medical Center in Downtown, Los Angeles. This new resident of South Gate is believed to have been the first baby to be born this year in Los Angeles County.

“I really can’t complain, I started the year with my son already,” said Jayden’s mother, Ilse Gutierrez, who has been a resident of South Gate for the past 12 years.

Gutierrez had the 4th of January as her due date and was caught off guard when she realized that she was going into labor on New Year's Eve. 

“It was something unexpected,” said Gutierrez as she smiled and held her newborn closely. “It was exciting.”

Family members were present through out the delivery, and even managed to help.

“This is the first one that I helped bring into this world,” said Jose Sifuentes, Jayden’s grandfather.

Welcoming the New Year is already an exciting event, and doing so with the birth of a child made it even more memorable for Jayden’s family.

“We were counting down with [Ilse], 10, 9, 8,” said Laura Sifuentes, the grandmother of Jayden. “I am very happy.”
