Blog: US Soccer, Misses Olympics, the Bigger Picture!

The US Olympic Team fails to reach the Olympics, with Honduras and Mexico moving forward.

It seems that soccer in the United States is still away from its potential.  With the amount of money that is spent in US soccer and soccer development, in a country as large as ours, it is surprising to see the hopes of our 'would be' Olympic team to be left on the field with a loss.

For US Soccer President, Sunil Gulati, the changes and reforms he is making cannot come soon enough, as the United States presence in the soccer world is seen as one that is fleeting at times.  While the reforms to the U17 and U20 teams are seen as paying dividends in the future, the U17 failed to get past the round of 16 and the U20 failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Taking nothing away from countries of El Salvador, Mexico, Honduras, etc. It just seems that we expect more from our home country's soccer team.  As we see our athletic teams excel in other sports during the Olympics, 36 Gold in 2008 with 110 in total, we really look forward to see the Gold around the US Soccer team.
