SCE Federal Credit Union and Greater Lynwood Chamber of Commerce Host Homebuyer Seminar

Greater Lynwood Chamber of Commerce joins SCE Federal Credit Union in preparing first-time homebuyers to make the right decisions.

LYNWOOD, CA – The newly formed Greater Lynwood Chamber of Commerce will
be co-sponsoring a homebuyer seminar early next month with the locally-based
SCE Federal Credit Union, for individuals interested in purchasing their first
or their next home.

Opportunities abound on almost every corner in the City of Lynwood, says Allan Bran, SCE Federal Credit Union’s Lynwood branch manager. Home prices are down and the 30-year fixed interest rate on mortgages has fallen to record lows in recent months, making it a perfect time to consider buying a home, Bran adds.

The question is, “Are you ready to buy a home?”

Taking place on Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. at Bateman Hall, 11331 Ernestine Ave., in Lynwood, this Homebuyer Seminar will address the most important bullet points homebuyers should be aware of when looking to buy a new home.

Designed to help prepare consumers for their next home purchase, experts at this
homebuyer seminar will cover topics such as current housing market conditions,
types of available financing, home appraisals and how to select a realtor.

“The lessons taught at these seminars can save homebuyers thousands of dollars and hours searching for their next home,” said Shannon Furiani, SCE Federal Credit Union’s vice president of lending. “One of the keys that Lynwood-area residents will learn from this seminar is how to avoid common mistakes, such as thinking about resale values before buying or not asking their lender enough questions.”

Free and open to the public, the seminar will address:

- Types of financing: Fixed or adjustable rates? Conforming or jumbo? 10, 15, or
30-year terms?

- How to get a loan preapproved?

- How to choose a realtor.

- How to make an offer?

- How to close the deal and loan?

- What type of insurance is required?

The seminar will also help future homebuyers ask themselves the biggest question that only he or she can answer, regarding whether or not he or she is “ready” to buy a home.

While the foreclosure rate in the City of Lynwood reached an all time high two years ago, along with the rest of the country, at this moment there is actually a pretty low inventory of properties for sale here.

That’s a good thing, says Sara Magana Withers, Director of Community Development, crediting Lynwood’s nice, stable neighborhoods.

“Home prices in the City of Lynwood are very affordable right now,” she said. “It is a very good time to buy a home here right now. Lynwood is a great city to start a family, or to buy one’s first home.”

Whether it’s one’s first or second home, buying a home isn’t an easy process, said Magana Withers.

“This seminar will give buyers an opportunity to ask questions and receive advice about the entire process and it will assist homebuyers in making an informed decision” before they make it, she said.

The free two-hour seminar is open to the public and attendees will automatically
qualify for $350 off closing costs, in addition to the $450 promotional special
SCE Federal Credit Union is offering through the end of the year, which can
give the new homebuyers a total savings of up to $800.

Space for the Homebuyer Seminar is limited. To make a reservation, interested persons may call (626) 646-2353 or go to www.scefcu.org.
