Ontario Firm Wins Engineering Excellence Award

Sacramento, CA – David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA) of Ontario has received an Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of California (ACECCA) for their work on the Space Shuttle Endeavour Move in Los Angeles, CA.

DEA was contacted by Cordoba Corporation on behalf of the California Science Center to collect data and identify obstacles the Shuttle could encounter during its 15-mile journey from Los Angeles International Airport to its new home at the California Science Center.  DEA’s 3D mobile laser scanning system provided a dense point cloud of data on the route and a map and video was produced to show the conflicts and obstructions. The deliverables were made possible by DEA’s modelers who developed a point cloud cutting method to accurately identify the clashes. In October of 2012, the Shuttle moved successfully and without incident through the streets of Los Angeles with 1.5 million people lining the streets; an event televised across the nation and around the world.

David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA) will be honored at the 2014 EEA Banquet held on February 3 in Sacramento.  Registration:  ACECCA 2014 EEA Banquet Event
