On Tuesday, January 28, 2013, at approximately 8:14 p.m. the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) responded to a call for help at residence located on 3100 block of Independence Avenue in South Gate.
“When we pulled up there was heavy smoke and flame coming out from the west side of the building,” said Captain Michael Kusaba of the LACoFD while at the scene of the fire. “The cause is accidental at this point.”
The LACoFD arrived on scene at 8:18 p.m. and told Patch that the fire was put out in about 5 minutes. No people were injured during the blaze. However, four dogs, that belonged to the residents of the burned home, were killed.
“They had 6 dogs total, we found one alive and could not find the sixth one,” said Capt. Kusaba. “Four of them died.”
The LACoFD told Patch that the house kitchen and a bedroom were completely destroyed in the fire. Smoke damage was also prevalent throughout the home.
