‘Gang Member’ Peacefully Surrenders to South Gate Police

Hector Barron is believed to have been the shooter in today’s incident.

The South Gate Police Department (SGPD) has informed Patch that Hector Manuel Barron Jr., age 24 from Santa Fe Springs, has been arrested in connection to the shooting in 9200 block of San Antonio Avenue.

The shooting allegedly took place at 3:22 p.m. and Barron was taken into custody after surrendering at approximately 5:15 p.m.

“When the first officers arrived on scene, they were told that a gang member in his twenties fired several shots at a couple of gang members in the area,” said Captain Keith Hupp of the SGPD.  “The responding officers saw a suspect, that matched the description, running and chased him to the 8600 block of San Gabriel Avenue.”

The police told Patch that no injuries have been reported as result of the shooting.

In order to apprehend Barron, the SGPD set up a containment area between Firestone Boulevard to Ardmore Avenue. Another security perimeter was also set up from San Juan Avenue to San Gabriel Avenue. Two canine units were brought in to help with the search and a helicopter for support.

Officers conducted yard searches across the 8600 block of San Gabriel Avenue and found the gun that they believe was used by Barron.

During this time, it is believed that Barron broke into an apartment in the same block and hid prior surrendering, according to police.

“We got a phone call from the suspect,” said Capt. Hupp. “He told us that he did not want to get shot and wanted to give up.”

Barron came out peacefully with his hands in the air and was arrested without conflict.  He has been booked for assault with a deadly weapon and burglary.

The SGPD would not release the names of the alleged gangs in question. However, they did state that the gang members that were allegedly shot at by Barron are from South Gate.

The SGPD also admitted to having dealt with this group before.

“We are familiar with these individuals,” affirmed Capt. Hupp.

One of the critics say the movie is set to modern music. I will not watch if this is true. TheRead More 1920's music is 1/2 of what made the Gatsby's memorable. Modern music will take away from the story of Scott Fitgerald's generation.
