Man Ordered to Stand Trial for Allegedly Killing Woman, Leading Sheriff's Deputies on Chase

Juan Diego Valencia has been charged with murder.

COMPTON (CNS) - An alleged gang member accused of shooting a woman to death and then shoving her body from a car as he led sheriff's deputies on a chase in Lynwood last September was ordered today to stand trial.

Juan Diego Valencia, 30, is charged with murder in the Sept. 6 slaying of Selene Mayoral, along with a charge of felony evading.

Valencia is accused of pushing the 24-year-old woman's body from a green Mercury Cougar at the intersection of Josephine Street and Harris Avenue in Lynwood after sheriff's deputies tried to stop him for a traffic violation.

Mayoral -- shot once in her head -- died at the scene. Valencia was arrested at about 1:50 a.m. the following day after barricading himself inside an apartment complex in the 14000 block of Chadron Avenue in Hawthorne, authorities said.

Valencia remained jailed while awaiting arraignment Feb. 28 in Compton Superior Court.
