Man Standing Outside Disabled Car on 710 Struck and Killed

The crash at the Lynwood-Southgate border came shortly after another collision nearby.

One man was fatally struck by a vehicle today while he stood outside his disabled car on the northbound Long Beach (710) Freeway in Lynwood at the boundary with South Gate, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision on the northbound 710 Freeway at Imperial Highway was reported at 3:18 a.m., said CHP Officer Peter Bishop.

CHP spokesman Officer Bill Preciado told reporters the victim was a man who was standing outside his disabled car on the freeway when he was struck by another vehicle.

The crash came shortly after another collision nearby, a news photographer reported from the scene. It was not clear if the two accidents were related.

A SigAlert was issued by the CHP at 3:37 a.m., and all northbound lanes were temporarily shut down at Imperial Highway for the death investigation, Bishop said.

But the CHP reopened the numbers 3 and 4 lanes around 4:30 a.m., said CHP Officer Monica Posada.
