New Year’s Gunfire: 93 Incidents of Discharging Firearms Reported

One woman was injured in Los Angeles County as a result of gunfire that rang in the new year. Did you hear any gunshots in your neighborhood?

Despite local law enforcement warnings against celebratory New Year’s Eve gunfire that can lead to injury and death, several instances were reported in Los Angeles County in an eight-hour period and one woman was injured.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that 93 incidents of discharging firearms were reported from Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. to Jan. 1 at 4 a.m.

Of the reported incidents, a 74-year-old woman from Gardena was slightly injured when a bullet broke through her den window and struck her left foot around midnight on Tuesday. A bullet fragment did not penetrate her skin and was found in her den.
