Police Chase Ends With Crash

The South Gate Police Department engaged in a police chase that ended with a collision.

BELL GARDENS (CNS) - A suspect who crashed a car into a light pole at the end of a police chase in Bell Gardens had to be cut out of the car, police said today.

The chase began around 10:50 p.m. Monday in South Gate at the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Firestone Boulevard in a Sam's Club parking lot where an officer found the car, occupied by a male driver and a male passenger, doing "doughnuts,'' said South Gate police Lt. David Pixler.

"As soon as the officer put his lights on they took off northbound on
Garfield,'' Pixler said.

The chase ended just moments later at the intersection of Garfield and Eastern avenues, where the car struck a parked vehicle and the light pole, which fell on top of the car, trapping the male driver, according to Pixler and a news crew at the scene.

"When they hit the railroad tracks they lost control,'' Pixler said.

Paramedics took one of the suspects to a hospital, but Pixler didn't
know which one. Additional details about the suspects and what they would be booked for were not immediately available.
