South Gate 2012 Homicide Rate Slightly Increases

The South Gate Police Department told Patch that there is no cause for concern.

The city of South Gate registered 9 homicides in 2012. This was three more than what was recorded in 2011. The South Gate Police Department (SGPD) told Patch that the increase was not a cause for concern.

“Homicides are difficult to predict,” said Captain Darren Arakawa of the SGPD in an email to Patch. “Although there is an increase, there is no imminent public safety concern.”

The SGPD had no further information on the 2012 homicides. Only adding that they are open and being investigated.

“The cases are active and no other info will be released on open cases,” said Capt. Arakawa.

The SGPD would not offer any specific details as to how much of an influence gangs played in the increase.

“Some homicides are gang related,”  wrote Capt. Arakawa.
