An apparent suicide victim was found hanging from a tree in South Gate Park. The tree was said to be located west of the South Gate Park Auditorium near Southern Avenue.

Police arrived on scene a little after 9:15 a.m.

“We received a call regarding a person down in South Gate Park,” said Lieutenant Jim Teeples of the South Gate Police Department (SGPD). “Officers arrived and located a female that had apparently committed suicide.”

The victim was declared dead shortly after the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived.

“The Los Angeles County Coroners office and our detectives will notify the family and conduct an investigation [to determine] what actually happened,” said Lt. Teeples.

The victim is believed to be an adult.

This is an unfortunate incident. We can only surmise the kind of situation that would lead someone to think that taking their life was their only option. My condolences to the family of the victim.

I agree with you Guadalupe, this is soo very sad. I just cant understand why someone would be so clouded in their mind or heart to do this to themselves. My prayers go out to the family.

I find it extremely appalling and disrespectful that there is a picture of the body hanging is even on the website. This is disrespectful to not only the deceased, but to her family as well. It is incredibly inappropriate to have on a public website that is aimed at local communities. I am all for educating the public as to what is going on in the community and I am supportive of this site for that, however, if my son would have seen this (as he usually uses this site for his current event assignment in school) he would have been horrified. I truly hoep the latter picture is removed and a sense of professional journalism is restored on this site. This picture needs to be removed.

Seriously SG Patch...take down that picture. Is it even necessary and does it add value to your reporting? Not appropriate.

Reality is an ugly thing yet ignoring it is far worst. Embrace it and take responsibility, teach/explain this reality to those you are accountable to.

Sad! During the holiday's some people feel so lonely & go to extremes. Prayers for her family & friends. It's terrible to see a picture like this out of respect for her resting soul & her family, but let me just add that this picture was not posted by law enforcement.

wow I am still shoc. what this poor woman had to be going through to do such a horrific thing. god keep her soul. Lets all say a prayer for this poor woman and count our blessings. May the lord bring confort to her family.

In addition to my comment I would like to say that we all have problems whether they be monetary or other, but please before you think of taking your life thindk about all those you are leaving behind. We have to be grateful for the daily blessings that the lord gives us day by day.

The picture was removed which i think was the right thing to do. I would hate if this was my loved one and everyone could see her in that state.

Every ones time on earth is limited..to choose to end yours like this is only testament to the pain and confusion that confronts us everyday. But just like you have a choice to end things you also have a choice to begin things...begin to embrace those around you

Hopefully no children witnessed this sad woman hanging from tree... although I dont think a picture of this is respectful towards the family it does bring awareness of the reality of suicide in our community.
Jake December 28, 2012 at 04:06 AM
I dont find it disrespectful of the picture being online.. It's Just showing the reality of the world we live in. Why not make it public when she decided to make her suicide public.

Why she did this in a public place baffles me. So I have no pitty. She should of just went on a crack binge for a couple days in the confort of her own home just like her neighbors.
