City Council To Briefly Discuss Azalea Project

The South Gate City Council will take up the Azalea retail development project, but postpone major decisions on it due to ongoing negotiations.

Today’s meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. and will take up several topics of interest to South Gate. Here are five of the most important happenings on the agenda:

1. The City Council will hear a presentation by the American Cancer Association on the Relay for Life event set to take place at Southeast High School on the weekend of July 14.

2. The City Council will consider a public hearing on a resolution that would confirm a $12 million subsidy to the Primestor Development. The public hearing would be continued to a meeting on March 27 due to ongoing negotiations. Primestor is the developer in charge of the Azalea Retail Project, which would create a shopping center on Firestone Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue.

3. The City Council will talk about approving a set of projects that have been recommended by the Citizen’s Advisory Committee.

4. The City Council will discuss the post offices at Hollydale and Firestone.

5. The City Council will entertain an appeal of a Planning Commission decision denying a permit to authorize a small recycling collection facility at Firestone.
