The episode was co-hosted by South Gate Mayor Bill De Witt and Vice-Mayor Gil Hurtado.  The guests  for the first episode were Chief Randy Davis and K9-unit handler Isamael Ververa.

“The idea behind this one was to show people some of the programs that they can participate to help fight local crime,” said Hurtado.

This Wednesday the second episode will be taped and the guest will be Janine Hamner, Community Relations Manager for Waste Management.

“We will be talking about the various recycling programs that exist,” said Hurtado. “We have asked her to bring props to better discuss things.”

Other trash and recycling related topics are also to be discussed.

The style of the program is not confrontational. The guests are briefed as to what the topic is, and a discussion ensues about the actual programs.

The program is very inexpensive to produce. Manpower and time are the only things that South Gate needs to make it with the current cable company agreement.

“The city provides staff time for production and Time Warner provides the rest per the Franchise agreement,” said Nellie Cobos, Public Information Officer for the city of South Gate, and the person in charge of the production of South Gate Informed.

The city plans to produce more of this type informational content. Such as by making“South Gate Informed” a monthly program.

“We intend on having one every month,” said Hurtado. “Hopefully it will take off.”

The show lasts a total of 30 minutes along with the credits and all other attachments. The second episode "South Gate Informed" will be taped on Wednesday. However, the city has yet to release a date that it will air.
