Council will Consider Widening South Gate's Video Surveillance System

The South Gate City Council will consider placing video cameras in Stanford Alley and in public works facilities to prevent illegal actions.

Today’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. will take up several topics of high interest in South Gate. Here are the three most important happenings of the meeting:

1. The City Council will considering approving the installation of video surveillance systems. Cameras will be set up in public work facilities to monitor city owned equipment and vehicles. They are also being placed in Stanford Alley to monitor the illegal dumping of garbage and debris. The video cameras would be managed the South Gate Police Department, who already controls a few video cameras that are used for crime prevention and to monitor traffic.

2. The City Council will consider adopting resolution that would create a new salary and benefits package for South Gate's city manager. If approved, the salary would go from a salary of $175,000 a year, to one that would range from $200,000 to $215,000 a year. The city agenda says that this is being done so that the South Gate City Manager position has a more comparable salary with that of other neighboring cities.

Patch reported earlier that the raise would affect the salary of current South Gate City Manager . But during the meeting, city officials announced that Troxcil would be leaving the city and that the raise would affect only his successor.
