Lynwood City Manager Retires

On Thursday, August 1, 2013, Roger Haley, who served as Lynwood City Manager since August 2007, officially retired. 

Leading all members of the Lynwood City Council to express their overall approval of the departing chief executive.

“He is the best city manager that [Lynwood] has had in the last twenty years,” said Lynwood councilmember Maria Santillan-Beas during Wednesday's council meeting. “Thank you for your time and commitment.”

Haley told Patch a little bit about his future plans.

“I am retiring from government service,” said Haley in an interview. “Most likely I will be entering a private service, in another capacity.”

The former city manager said that he already had offers from development companies, private contractors, and quasi-government organizations.

For now, Haley plans on taking a two-week vacation with his family before making a decision.

“I am relatively young, so I am sure I will be doing something soon,” confessed  the 52-year-old Haley.

On Tuesday's, July 16, 2013, the Lynwood City Council gave city staff permission to hire an executive firm for the purpose of searching for a new city manager. 

In the meantime, a current Lynwood department head will hold the city manager position until a permanent candidate is chosen.

“Effective Monday, August 5, 2013, Director of our Community Development Department Sarah M. Withers will serve as Acting City Manager until further notice,” said Marisela Santana, Lynwood Public Information Officer, in an email.
