Head Start is part of the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation and maintains a federally funded preschool program in South Gate. The school enrolls children ranging in age from three to five, primarily those from lower income families. Its goal is to prepare children for kindergarten, to hone their cognitive skills and to acclimate them to interacting with other kids in a structured environment. The facility works with parents to support the children's development and strong family foundations. The large facility features both indoor and outdoor activities and features a playground in its front yard.
