Surely Edward you aren't suggesting that only injury accidents should be reported and that propertyRead More accidents don't need reporting and should just be allowed to Hit and run?I would strongly suggest you reconsider that avenue, it borders on lawlessness.....we have laws and all of them should be enforced or abolished.....ALL LAWS, not just some of them.

I appreciate your comment Jeremiah and I don't think I could've said it better myself, so I won't beRead More redundant. Except to repeat only one thing-- This is why Mr Melhman: "the age limit is based on the medical risk profile that would endanger both the employee and the public he is tasked with serving. The likelihood of sudden debilitating circumstances increases with age and these jobs have a stress level which can precipitate it." I'm still of working age yet from day to day I have bizarre health issues pop up. I run abt 3-5 miles per day, 5-6 days a week. I'm in excellent health. I'm also clever and a bright individual. Yet I've begun having pains in places, and I'm also getting forgetful. My eyesight is decreasing. I get stressed easier than I used to. Because this is our natural human aging process. we age. we just do. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now, in reading this article, I didn't read, nor did I realize we were discussing being let go at a certain age. I thought we were talking about applying for the job, where can age limit is set due to medical and statistical averages. So I agree with you, I do not think a person should be let go the day they turn 62. Most others do also, that;s why we are offered pensions at particular ages for incentive. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Lastly, your point using vote vs age limits is like comparing dogs to elephants, and completely irrelevant. We're talking about a person's capability to perform a certain type of job.

**** And I bet SouthernBelle knows something many women and men have forgotten - it's a whole lotRead More more fun acting out the roles when men act like men and women act like women and we all play the game and enjoy life as equal but thankfully different! **** Any good man who values his life knows women are superior to men and don't argue with them because even if you win, you lose!! :-) **** hahahahahahahahahaha!!! Yep, exactly how I feel. There are many many careers out there to choose from. Maybe a girl's passion is to put on 100 lbs of equipment and run up stairs to fight a fire and carry out a 250 lb man- but I'm guessing more aren't than are interested in that. But I'll tell you what, if my daddy's house catches fire and some gal runs up his stairs she best be able to carry him down because HIS life depends on it. And if she can't, then her taking a job she's unable to perform is just wrong.
southernbelle July 12, 2014 at 04:01 pm
one more thing--Mr Melhman, Not sure how long you've been in the area or if you are familiar with LARead More county hiring for Police and fire. But over the past 10 yrs they have had to lower their physical ability testing, as well as their hiring requirements because they had to account for women's physical abilities, and not enough men or women were passing the orals due to prior drug use (even trying it once counts), criminal records (DUI's fall in this), etc. This is also why the quality is lower than it used to be. We haven't seen nothing yet! It's abt to get a whole lot worse because no one wants police officer jobs anymore. so sad how we treat them!

molly rogers June 26, 2014 at 07:40 am
I wish everyone would go to the parks or beaches. They have beautiful displays there. Last yearRead More my neighbourhood was like a war zone with all the illegal fireworks. They literally shook my house. A neighbours's tree caught on fire, another's attic caught fire, another's porch was scorched. All the poor animals are terrified and several traumatized dogs were running down the middle of the road. We could not catch them. Everything is so dry because of the drought so they are a fire hazard. Not to mention all the injuries that occur every year. Used to be it was just July4th but now they start weeks before and end weeks afterwards.

Since LA County represents 26.1% of California's census (estimated as of 2013), it would appear thatRead More it is doing better than the rest of the state, if it is only experiencing 24.4% of car thefts. This article appears to be a non-issue….

This is exactly why I don't help women anymore. There have been several times in my life, when I'veRead More helped a woman who should never have been in a violent relationship with a thug in the first place. Well the good news is, the more people who apply, the larger the applicant supply, and the lower theRead More costs (and their salaries) to the taxpayers. This is why racism and sexism in the workplace is a myth. Employers don't want to eliminate a sector of the applicant pool. And, no company/corporation is going to risk lawsuits for discrimination. There are plenty of watchdogs, lawyers, and bimbo HR women keeping a bean counting eye on who is hired and hiring metrics. If women/minorities truly earned less than white males, why would any company hire white males?

Was this kid on psych drugs? Why didn't they commit him to a counseling center for mental healthRead More issues. They have to have something out there? Why wasn't he involved in youth groups from a young age such as church groups? Those Calvary kids are always having fun at the beach & they don't 'shun' anyone who is nice & not scary weird. So this was his own doing along with the mental problems. So hopefully there is new legislation to make it harder to get guns & take much much longer. I believe this wouldn't have happened if he didn't get the guns so easily, or at all, of course. Tragic, repulsive, sad, senseless, violence. It needs to end! Teach our youth to be accountable & have social activities, not hide in a computer world. Sports is also a very good lesson in life for youth. Teach our youth morals & values!! I am scared for the future!!

NLP is a tool as are medications and social support and supervision when needed. These are safetyRead More valves that should be used together for creating a positive supportive environment that use correctly and consistently will give him and those like him coping mechanisms to prevent these things from happening again. A medical registry for those on anti-psychotic drugs is not a bad thing. Unlike the sex offender registry that is punitive by it's nature this registry would not be.

When an Amber alert is mobilized, it goes out to the whole state. Why? Because people move. RememberRead More the Amber alert a month or two ago out of LA? Children found in Oceanside in north San Diego County (which means they traveled through Orange County most likely, and if not, the Inland Empire). We all need to be vigilant if children's lives are at risk, do we not? And unstable parents present a danger to children more often than we want to realize. Just ask the father of the three little girls killed by their mother this week near Torrance.
Stop Noise Pollution May 26, 2014 at 10:17 am
This is exactly why I don't look at "Amber Alerts" anymore. This alert should be reservedRead More for children abducted by strangers NOT parents!! This alert is being ruined by cops using it this way. My parents were divorced and there were times my Mom took me from my Father and vice versa. This certainly didn't warrant and Amber alert! Save the Amber Alert STOP using it this way people will stop paying attention!
Me is who May 26, 2014 at 11:52 am
Abductions by parents are just as valid. The reason parents find themselves abducting there ownRead More children is that they were found to be unfit in the first place. NOT SAYING ALL CHILDREN HAVE BEEN TAKEN AWAY FOR A VALID REASON....as I'm sure in some cases there has been unfair justice. Can't take chances when it comes to children especially some psyco parents that end up killing them. We need to keep our children safe and be aware of our surroundings...this is why we have amber alerts on any abductions... parents and strangers both. Many children have been saved by these amber alerts.

Sadly, all too often these cases end very badly (and fatally) for these children. We areRead More increasingly seeing cases such as this one with the courts and law enforcement officials doing all to little to protect victims. The attitude (until the child is actually killed) is that the mother is 'exaggerating', 'hysterical', and that (as I was told by the police) "a father would never hurt his own child". The ignorance and "turning a blind-eye attitude" that we are seeing in the courts is largely responsible for cases such as these escalating to this point. I hope on this occasion the police will take action rather than 'sweeping it under the carpet' as usual. For more information about the failure of courts to protect victims see Family Courts in Crisis posted on http://worldpulse.com/node/71182.
