Wow! Talk about Brown-Obama-Democrat Cronyism. Not only can the system be built and installed forRead More less than $500/node, it already has. I helped with one of the nodes with-in the past four years. The system (requiring less than 25 sq.ft. (donated) can be set up similar to a Home WiFi Security Cam with FTP access. Really it can be automatically monitored and maintained for free through a cooperating University. This is merely a $16 million a year hornswoggle going into the crony's pocket. Its dirtier than greedy profit. All that, lying cheating and stealing on top of it. Republicans in office don't deserve to be there because they do not study and know about the communities they represent or what they have already (and recently) funded. They are not doing their jobs in a two party system. Having formerly worked for the DNC the only thing good I can say about democrats is they at least learn their constituencies well enough to manipulate them.

Note that this law would NOT have stopped the Isla Vista shooting because the parents did NOT callRead More the local mental health agency as well as the police. Note that by failing to check the California gun registry - available in every patrol car - they would not have even considered issuing such an order because they didn't think there were any firearms in the area - and neither did his parents, apparently. I really really hope bases are closed. This country needs to refocus its funds elsewhere. PerhapsRead More the land where the bases are can have factories built on them to replace jobs lost.
Tom Jackson June 13, 2014 at 09:30 am
I guess keeping anything military open is stupid if you plan on becoming a third world country atRead More the mercy of one of the other big three. People don't get the far reaching ramifications of closing bases. One only needs to drive over to Norton a air a base in San Bernadino to see how a base closure affects the local community. The place has become a slum. All the local businesses that flourished with the base business are gone now. Thousands of jobs were affected. It's likedriving through TJ. The problem with supporters of base closures is they dont think outside their own little box. The closures also affect the budgeting for our National defense. Of course I understand that many of the viewers here don't believe in National defense. Perhaps if one of our buildings were leveled like in NY by a terrorist organization you would be more supportive of a base remaining operational. Clinton trimmed everything he could back in the 90's dozens if basis were closed. Even he knew when to stop. We are at the bare minimum now having just enough bases to support our needed military.

DCFS- the Department of Children and Family Services. The department has lots of issues- but at theRead More same time there are a lot of hard workers who care deeply about what they do. The department administration needs to better support the workers so they CAN do their jobs. The challenge lies in changing the way the department is run- more case workers will help immensely- that will be implemented by Fall. But the case workers need to be trained in organizational skills (filing etc.- sounds mundane but critical when you do not want children to get lost in the shuffle).

I believe it is time for action, not further study. It is time for respect, not dismissiveness.Read More The Commission unanimously concluded that a "State of Emergency" exists in the current child protection system. Reform will only take as long or as little time as 3 votes on the Board of Supervisors decide it will take. If elected to serve the 3rd District, I will implement the recommendations made by the Blue Ribbon task force, and not ask for yet another study. The report uncovers the fact that 4 months have transpired since the Commission issued its interim recommendation which everyone agreed was both urgent and able to be implemented with current resources - - - the recommendation that medical screening exams should be performed on detained children under the age of one. (see p. 12) How could the Board fail to act at least on this one simple recommendation? LA County Supervisors can use their discretionary funds to implement the hiring of a Child Welfare Chief/Czar before more innocent children become the next victims. LA County voters will be given the opportunity to vote for 2 new Supervisors in the June primary and in November this year. I hope and pray that the newly elected Supervisors will make protecting children a priority.

Despicable and disgusting. I can assure you that social workers, probation officers, foster parents and employees of groupRead More homes are well versed in the signs of sexual exploitation of children. The problem isn't lack of education or not knowing what to look for. The issue is ENFORCEMENT Of the laws that protect minors from predators. One more training class will assuage the guilt of those who should be reporting the crimes instead of looking the other way.
