This to me is fascinating. I have been to almost every Council meeting for past 13 years and HenryRead More has a mind like a Steel Trap. I hope the L.A.Times writer does not settle for just the time of the shooting but also what led up to it and after. No matter what, I will be looking forward to this article from both Patch and other news outlets.

These Illegal Fireworks are horrible. Stray dogs leaving their homes to roam the streets fromRead More horrifying fright. The children and adults who get hurt. I still think the City should advertise how many thousands of dollars$$$ it will cost offenders when they shoot these things off and in some cases jail time.

I don't think many people realize that the Developer of the Azalea project was asking for free SouthRead More Gate Land, they were asking for our full 1 cent tax increase we fought so hard for in 2008, they were asking for 14 million dollars from the City from our General Fund, there was something about S.G. paying the property taxes. We don't have 14 million dollars and this would be a gift of public funds. The retail properties before were paid for out of Government Grant money. If it weren't for Councilman Gonzalez's excellent negotiating skills we would have given away the farm. They have now come down to earth with some of their demands from the Community. Yes, I agree we need something but we the City of South Gate, aren't even allowed to know what the developers are going to put in this shopping center, or even if they are retail stores and restaurants or medical offices that pay no sales taxes to the City. They said at open Council they have an agreement with the City and that they don't have to let us know. I am for this shopping center but I also think Councilman Gonzalez is a large part of making it actually happen and doesn't want his Community to be taken advantage of. Young people with no business sense or negotiating skills are still being manipulated by big developers so don't knock age and experience. I think this Developer is better than most but all of them are in it for the bottom line, make no mistake about that.

I strongly believe Voting “NO” on this project was not the right decision for Mr.Read More Gonzalez. Even if the City does not get the Tax revenues expected or deserved, I would rather have this than another Parral or OZ club just to name a few. At least these developers are trying to negotiate and work their way in a professional matter. I hope this developer break ground as soon as possible and get the ball rolling. I would like to hear what will be a good reason not to accept a project like this in the city and what’s not in the best interest of the people to put a stop to it? We need to improve the image of our city and we should be happy these developers are willing to come to the city and help out. That’s my opinion, Thank you Tony Morales
