Men Accused of Killing Shopkeeper to Head Back to Court

Two men accused of killing a shopkeeper during a botched robbery have been ordered to stand trial and will soon be re-arraigned.

Two men accused of killing a Lynwood shopkeeper will be re-arraigned now that a Superior Court Judge ordered them stand trial during a July 10 preliminary hearing.

Donald Simpson and Davion Woodspage are scheduled to return to Compton Superior Court on July 24 for a post preliminary hearing arraignment.

The two face charges in connection with the fatal shooting of 67-year-old Luis Valadez on Nov. 20 during an botched armed robbery.

The two originally pleaded not guilty to murder and robbery and could face the death penalty if convicted of all charges and allegations, Patch reported earlier this year.

Two teen girls, ages 14 and 15, were also taken into custody in connection with the incident, authorities said. Their names were not been released due to their age.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s investigators say Simpson and Woodspage tried to rob the Las Palomas Meat Market in the 12400 block of Long Beach Blvd.
